The Path from Tabarra to Prophethood
"From Rejection of Falsehood to Acceptance of Divine Truth"
First comes the rejection of all false gods (La illaha), idols, desires, and attachments that occupy the heart. Then comes the acceptance of Allah in a heart purified from falsehood. This purification, achieved through Tabarra by disassociating oneself from all that opposes divine truth, is the doorway to faith.
With the heart cleansed and devoted solely to Allah (illilallah), the believer then embraces the message of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and bears witness: Muhammadur Rasulullah" Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.
Thus, Tabarra is not merely a rejection; it is a spiritual preparation. By turning away from falsehood, the heart becomes ready to receive the truth of prophethood and enter the Kingdom of Allah's guidance, mercy, and light.
Imam Ali teaches that the path to truth begins with purifying the heart of all false attachments and idols. Before one can truly affirm the oneness of Allah, one must reject everything that competes for the heart's ultimate loyalty, whether it be ego, worldly desires, injustice, or false beliefs.
This principle is reflected in the declaration of faith itself. The words "La ilaha illa Allah" begin with a negation before an affirmation: first rejecting all false gods, then affirming the One True God. In this sense, the spirit of Tabarra precedes the acceptance of truth.
Tabarra is the conscious disassociation from wrongdoing, injustice, falsehood, and those paths that lead one away from divine guidance. It is not merely a rejection of others; it is a commitment to cleanse one's own heart of everything that stands between the believer and Allah.
Only after rejecting falsehood can one sincerely affirm: "There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah."

*Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa [s] said*
“When he was asked how to send blessings on him, he replied, 'Say: O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, just as you blessed Abraham and the family of Abraham, verily you are Praiseworthy and Glorious. And send Your benediction on Muhammad and on the family of Muhammad, just as you sent Your benediction on Abraham and on the family of Abraham, verily you are Praiseworthy and Glorious.”
The migration of Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina was not merely a journey from one city to another; it was a strategic and practical decision made in response to the realities of his time. When the environment in Mecca became hostile and prevented the growth of the Muslim community, the Prophet migrated to Medina, where the believers could live, worship, and organize themselves freely. Later, when circumstances changed and the balance of power shifted, his return to Mecca during the Conquest of Mecca was likewise a deliberate and consequential decision.
The Prophet's mission was not limited to proclaiming faith alone. He had to preserve and nurture a living community. He addressed psychological challenges by giving hope to the persecuted, social challenges by reconciling rival tribes and reducing long-standing divisions, economic challenges by establishing fair commercial practices and systems of charity, and political challenges by creating agreements, alliances, and institutions that could maintain peace and justice. He transformed a fragmented society into a community bound by shared moral and spiritual principles.
This transformation did not occur overnight. During approximately the first two years after the Hijra (1–2 AH / 622–624 CE), the foundations of the new community were established through the construction of the mosque, the brotherhood between the Muhajirun and Ansar, and agreements among the various groups of Medina. During the following years (3–7 AH / 625–629 CE), the community developed its administrative, legal, economic, and security structures while facing external threats and internal challenges. By the time of the Conquest of Mecca in 8 AH (630 CE), nearly eight years after the Hijra, the Islamic polity had matured into a stable and influential state capable of governing a large and diverse population.

The Prophet Muhammad migrated from Mecca to Medina in 1 AH (the Hijra). About eight years later, in 8 AH, he returned with a Muslim force and peacefully entered Mecca during the Conquest of Mecca. After the conquest, the Prophet ordered the removal of the idols from the Kaaba and its surroundings. Islamic traditions report that Ali ibn Abi Talib assisted him in this process. Among the idols associated with pre-Islamic Arabian worship were al-Lāt, al-ʿUzzā, and Manāt, whose shrines were subsequently destroyed as idol worship was abolished in Arabia.

From a theological perspective, Allah is not dependent on human means. If Allah had willed, He could have accomplished everything instantly. The Qur'an teaches that when Allah decrees a matter, He only says, "Be," and it is. Yet Allah's wisdom often unfolds through human effort, choices, struggles, and historical processes. The Hijra, the building of the community in Medina, the treaties, the hardships, and the eventual return to Mecca demonstrate how divine guidance operates through human action and responsibility. The success of Islam was therefore not only a miracle of faith but also a lesson in patience, leadership, perseverance, institution-building, and the wise management of social, economic, and political realities.
Allah could have accomplished His will instantly, but in His wisdom, He chose to bring about these events through human actions and historical causes. In this way, the life of the Prophet became not only a revelation of divine truth but also a practical model for how communities can be built, reformed, and sustained in the real world.

تبرّا سے نبوت تک
Tabarrā Se Nubuwwat Tak
From Rejection to Prophethood
پہلے دل سے بتانِ وہم و گماں کو مٹا
Pehlay dil se butān-e-wahm-o-gumāñ ko miṭā
First erase the idols of doubt and illusion from your heart,
And let the journey toward truth and wisdom start.
پھر حریمِ دل میں نورِ یزداں کو بسا
Phir harīm-e-dil mein nūr-e-Yazdān ko basā
Then let the Light of God dwell within your soul,
So His radiance may make your spirit whole.
لا الٰہ کی صدا سے شبِ باطل کو چیر دے اہل وفا
Lā Ilāha kī sadā se shab-e-bāṭil ko cheer de ahle wafa
With the cry of "La Ilaha," tear apart the night of lies,
And watch the dawn of truth before your eyes.
اپنی ہستی کو حقیقت کے اُفق تک لے جا
Apnī hastī ko haqīqat ke ufuq tak le jā
Raise your being to the horizon of the Real,
Where eternal truths are revealed and felt.
نفس کے جال، ہوس کے قید خانے کو توڑ دے اے اہل جفا
Nafs ke jāl, havas ke qaid-khānay ko toṛ de ye ahl-e-jafa
Break the nets of ego and the prisons of desire,
And free your soul to rise ever higher.
ہر تعلق جو ہو غیرِ حق، اُسے بھی چھوڑ دے
Har ta‘alluq jo ho ghair-e-haq, usay bhī chhoṛ de
Abandon every bond that leads away from the Divine Way,
And let only truth within your heart stay.
زنگِ دنیا دھلے اور دل صاف ورق بن جائے
Zang-e-dunyā dhuley aur dil sāf waraq ban jā’e
May the rust of the world be washed away, and the heart become a spotless page,
Ready to receive the light of truth and wisdom of every age.
تب محمدؐ کا پیامِ جاوداں دل میں اتر جائے
Tab Muhammad kā payām-e-jāvidāñ dil mein utar jā’e
Then the eternal message of Muhammad ﷺ descends within,
And fills the soul with guidance from within.
محمدٌ رسولُ اللہ کی جب گونجے صدا
Muhammadur Rasūlullāh kī jab gūnjay sadā
When the witness "Muhammad is Allah's Messenger" rings clear,
The path of faith and certainty draws near.
روح کو مل جائے پھر پاکیزہ راه صبا
Rūh ko mil jā’e phir pakizah rah e saba. ❤️
Then the soul discovers the sacred way to rise,
Toward heavenly heights beyond the skies.
تبرّا صرف نفی نہیں، اثبات کا در بھی یہی
Tabarrā sirf nafī nahīñ, isbāt kā dar bhī yahī
Tabarra is not mere rejection; it is truth's open door,
Leading the seeker to treasures evermore.
راہِ ایماں کا چراغ اور رازِ دل بھی یہی
Rāh-e-īmān kā chirāgh aur rāz-e-dil bhī yahī
It is the lamp of faith and the heart's secret flame,
Guiding every seeker who calls upon His Name.
جو جھکائے سر فقط اللہ کی عظمت کے حضور
Jo jhukā’e sar faqat Allāh kī ‘azmat ke huzūr
Who bows only before Allah's Majesty and Might,
Walks forever in the path of light.
اُس پہ کھلتا ہے نبوت کا جہاں بھر کا شعور
Us par khultā hai nubuwwat kā jahān bhar kā shu‘ūr
To him unfolds the wisdom of Prophethood's domain,
A knowledge that enlightens heart and brain.
حق کی وادی میں قدم رکھ، خوف و ظلمت چھوڑ دے
Haq kī wādī mein qadam rakh, khauf-o-zulmat chhoṛ de
Step into the valley of Truth, abandon fear and night,
And walk with courage in the Divine Light.
ہر گوشۂ دل کو حبِ مصطفیٰ سے بھر دے
Har goshah-e-dil ko hubb-e-Mustafā ﷺ se bhar de
Fill every corner of the heart with love for Mustafa ﷺ,
And illuminate the soul with the light of divine mercy.
یہی پیغامِ وفا، یہی اسرارِ یقیں
Yahī payām-e-wafā, yahī asrār-e-yaqīn
This is the message of devotion, this the secret of belief,
A source of comfort, strength, and relief.
باطل سے انکار کر، اور حق کو کر دل نشیں
Bāṭil se inkār kar, aur haq ko kar dil-nashīn
Reject falsehood, and enthrone the Truth within your heart,
For that is where the journey of faith must start.
